VOAMASS offers 24/7/365 care in a warm, welcoming, safe environment.
Our residential treatment for mental health and/or substance use disorders (MH/SUD) is customized to each client: we tailor treatment to individual goals and provide wraparound care to address not only MH/SUD needs, but other factors that may be preventing our residents from achieving optimal wellbeing, like unstable employment or housing.
The VOAMASS residential treatment team consists of clinicians, care coordinators, and recovery support specialists. We provide trauma-informed care through a harm reduction approach. While in the program, residents participate in recovery support and education groups, individual counseling, and case management. They have access to medication for opioid use disorder and medication for alcohol use disorder (MOUD/MAUD), employment and housing services, recovery support navigators, and recovery coaches – among many other services. Additionally, our program staff works hard to ensure that we are providing specialized care to all populations, including individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community and those involved in the criminal legal system. All are welcome at VOAMASS.

Three of the four VOAMASS residential treatment programs are licensed to serve individuals diagnosed with both a mental health and substance use disorder, known as co-occurring diagnoses. These co-occurring enhanced treatment programs have been recognized as some of the best in the state.

The Men’s Hello House in the South End pioneered residential treatment in the 1960s. Today, it continues to be on the forefront of innovations in care. The Men’s Hello House serves up to 24 men in a clean, compassionate, and community-oriented environment.

The Men’s Hello House – Burt Street, with 16 beds, offers top-notch care in a home-like setting. Like all of our residential treatment staff, the team at Burt Street is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment for MH/SUD.
Shiloh House
Treatment for Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
Shiloh House in Jamaica Plain, our women’s co-occurring treatment program, provides 16 women with the support, resources, and tools needed to manage their conditions and reclaim their lives.
Women’s Hello House
Treatment for Substance Use Disorder
Our Women’s Hello House in Dorchester, with 28 beds, is a co-capable substance use disorder treatment program. This means that while women do not need to have a diagnosed mental health condition (in addition to their SUD) to receive treatment at Women’s Hello House, the program still offers robust support and treatment for these conditions, just like our three co-occurring programs.
Eligibility for all Residential Programs
To enter residential treatment with VOAMASS, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a diagnosed SUD.
Eligibility for Co-Occurring Treatment Programs
Those seeking admission to one of our co-occurring enhanced treatment programs (Men’s Hello House – Mass Ave, Men’s Hello House – Burt Street, or Shiloh House) must also have experienced at least one of the following events within the last 90 days:
- Inpatient psychiatric hospitalization
- Two emergency room and/or behavioral health emergency services program visits
- Unsuccessful engagement and/or inability to succeed in other community-based services due to psychosocial or clinical complexity
VOAMASS specializes in helping those who have experienced barriers to accessing traditional recovery services. We can accommodate individuals with:
- HIV/AIDS
- Cognitive difficulties
- Prescriptions of controlled substances and use of syringes for administration of medications
