Our Mission
Volunteers of America of Massachusetts (VOAMASS) is an affiliate of the national Volunteers of America organization.
VOAMASS is a nonprofit human services organization dedicated to serving those most in need, especially those facing multiple challenges. Our work touches the mind, body, heart, and ultimately the spirit of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services.
Volunteers of America was founded in 1896 on the core belief that everyone has potential, no matter the circumstance.
Now, more than 125 years later, we carry on our founders’ legacy of responding to the needs of veterans; those who are experiencing housing insecurity; those unemployed or involved in the criminal legal system; and those who have mental health and/or substance use disorder diagnoses. Although we are not – by today’s definition – volunteers, we are still guided by our founding mission to uplift those most in need.
Today, VOA is one of the largest and most well-established human services organizations in the U.S., with programs in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, serving approximately 1.5 million people a year.
VOAMASS is proud of our rich heritage of service, and of our ability to continually adapt and innovate, meeting the changing needs of society and of the times.
From our pioneering residential treatment programs in the 1960s to today’s innovative leadership in providing services for those involved in the criminal legal system, VOAMASS delivers integrated, compassionate, and effective care that changes lives.
Every day we strive to live out our motto:
Care today. Opportunity tomorrow.
