Thank you so much for expressing an interest in Volunteers of America.  We are eager to share with you our current opportunities and we look forward to getting your volunteer career started with us today! All of our potential volunteers are required to be at least 18 years of age, complete an application with criminal record check and attend a group or individual information session prior to volunteering.

 

Volunteers of America has over 90,000 volunteers serving over 2 million people nationwide. The goal of Volunteers of America is to provide people with the help they need to make positive changes in their lives.  Here in Massachusetts, we serve over 2,500 people each year.  Our focus is at-risk youth, adults in recovery from substance abuse and elders in need of housing and health services.  We invite volunteers to share their individual talents with our programs and we are open to any opportunity volunteers wish to provide.

Books Open Life’s Doors (BOLD)
Location: Newport Rhode Island
Date/Time Commitment: Volunteers agree to volunteer once a week during the Newport Rhode Island Public school calendar year.
Books Open Life’s Doors (BOLD) is the Newport Public Schools’ volunteer literacy project in which trained volunteers support the teachers’ classroom literacy strategies.

Computer Champions
Location: Casa Isla: 1 Moon Island Road; Quincy - MA
Date/Time Commitment: We are looking for people to dedicate two hours a week to teaching teen boys basic to advanced computer skills.
Computer instructors needed to guide basic to advance computer lessons.

Calling All Tutors
Location: Rebound: 1 Moon Island Road
Date/Time Commitment: We are looking for a weekly commitment of 2-3 days a week, one hour a day. Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Looking for tutors to commit to four months of service helping at-risk boys face the challenges of math, science, English, and literacy.

Date/Time Commitment: Year-Round Collection The perfect one-time opportunity that goes a long way
Volunteers of America Massachusetts is always in need of Caring Gift items which provide basic, yet essential necessities to residents living in our human service programs. Organize a drive in your neighborhood, at school, or at the workplace.

Arts and Enrichment

Date/Time Commitment: Weekly commitment, Wednesday or Friday evenings, 2 hours a week, between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm
Weekly arts, craft, hobby and cultural enrichment instructors needed for an adolescent male residential community.

Friendly Visitor for the Elderly
Location: Location varies, most likely in South West Boston
Date/Time Commitment: Volunteer Friendly Visitors meet the person they are matched with once a week for one to two hours. We ask that volunteers make a minimum commitment of 6 months.
Become a friend and visit an elder in his or her own home in order to provide companionship and relive loneliness.

The Family Center for Counseling and Education located in Taunton, MA is looking for a weekly office assistant. Duties include phone handling, filing, photocopying and other basic administrative duties.
